Kererū Team

Kia ora, and a very warm welcome to the Kererū Team.

Our team marks the very beginning of a child’s learning journey. Our educators are highly experienced junior teachers, many of whom have proudly been part of the Orewa Beach School community for over 15 years.

We strive to work in close partnership with our parents and caregivers. Our goal is to create a warm, approachable atmosphere where students feel active in their learning, excited to be at school, and considerate of their peers.

Every classroom has specific morning tasks for students to complete. Once your child is comfortable with the school environment, please support their independence by dropping them off at the classroom door. This encourages them to manage their own belongings and settle into their morning routines autonomously. 

Home learning typically consists of sound strips, heart words, and number work. These tasks are carefully chosen to mirror the learning happening in the classroom each day. To ensure your child is working at the appropriate level, teachers use regular observations and assessments to determine when it is time to progress to new sounds or words. This ensures that home practice is always purposeful and builds student confidence.
